mylds mail hates all the missionaries today so I am going to have to make this short.
Last week I was sick with a cold and I learned a few things: 1. I don't have the vocabulary for symptoms and 2. Brazilians have funny ideas about sickness. For example: I was drinking water and then I was going to drink some hot tea that a member had made for me with honey and lemon... well you aparntly can't have any thing kind of cold and honey and lemon because of something something. I told my companion "whatever" and she was like, "well, just remember it's Brazilian honey and you have a Brazilian gripe (cold), it's different." It was funny but I am great now. I need to get going.
I love you all, I heard that some of you are working on coming to Brazil to see me in more than a year that will rock !!!!!
So i have to go, love you all more than I can say.

First Transfers
Dear Family,
Life is good. Transfers were today and I get to stay in Camacari for at least 6 more weeks. That is great. I love Sister Rezende. She may or may not be staying for one more transfer as an extension. I think that she will, but not for the whole transfer. No one gets to extend more than 14 days. But we will see if that is the case. I bet that next transfer we get put in a threesome since there are a whole whapping 9 sisters in this mission as of today!
Yesterday I gave my first talk in church. It was OK. I know that I did the best I could do. I was asked by the bishop at like 12 that day. I was thinking well, it is not really a problem that he did not give me time to prepare because the real problem is that I don’t really speak Portuguese. It was not too bad.
I started with a commitment for everyone to make a prayer in their heart and by telling everyone that they would learn something by the spirit if they were listening. I thought it was a good idea and true. I talked about the different kinds of missionary work that we have and how the members can be missionaries too. That is not very exciting. I think the more exciting part was that the next day I was blessed with the gift of tongs more than I have ever before. How cool is that !!!
Also, on Sunday I had to sing in public at a fire side that we had. I sang “God Is Love”. It is a pretty simple song. It is hard to sing in Portuguese though. That is OK it was not bad and probably better than the last time I sang in a meeting.
Yesterday was a pretty freaken awesome day if I do say so myself. We taught one girl that we had meet the day before. She had talked with the missionaries before but that was the end and she wanted to learn more about the church. Then a family with two brothers by the names of Neldon and Nelton and all of their siblings names start with “Nel” like Nelson, Nellyn, Nel-something. I think it is basically funny.
Anyway, the family that we taught was really cool and Sister Rezende was testifying about Joseph Smith with one mighty powerful testimony. It was so cool and we organized a family night for another family that we taught last week who have been having family prayer but they did not come to church. That is OK, it is great that they have been praying as a family. Family night tonight will rock I know.
Anyway, life is great. Time is up I think.
Have a great week!
I love you all a lot and I pray for you.
PS – I just want to tell you that I have been reading way too many Ensign articles. Yesterday I even read the no hanging out addition. Sometimes I am grateful to be on a mission.
Love, your daughter, friend, sibling, Sister Felt

life is good
Sorry for last week's letter. I was not very organized and I didn't know what to type so I didn't write much of anything. I think I was in a bad mood, normally I write down things that I want to say but last week I didn't.
So, there are a few things for this week that I am mentioning first because I keep forgetting to tell you about them: Hear in my mission we are allowed on p-day to listen to other good music, so if any one feels so inclined to send me a Wicked CD or a Jack Johnson CD or Beetles or any other good-clean-fun music, I would not be mad about it at all.
Last week we had lots and lots of fun but we kept running into problems, people didn't want to talk to us or we didn't want to talk to them. One day, everyone that we talked to was drunk and they were so funny, but you can't teach people when they are drunk. It was Thursday, not even a weekend!!!! I mean we expect people to be drink on the weekend but Thursday afternoon?!?! Come on!!!! Sister Rezende blames anything like that on the fact that we are in Baia which is different from the rest of Brazil.
One day we were walking from Verde Horisonte, which is one of the neighborhoods we work in, and there was a dead mouse on the ground. We made a cross made out of sticks and placed it above the mouse. I wrote RIP and taught Sister Rizende that RIP means rest in peace. She decided that RIP was her new favorite phrase in English so she says it all the time and it is how we say good night: Rest In Peace Sister :) I think it's very funny.
Well time is up, love you I will share a spiritual thought next time sorry.
Bye,
Love,
Sister Kate Felt

fist week of march
Oh man, time flies,... Are you kidding.. it is March!!!
Ok, This week was great we had our first baptism. This kid is a rock-star; he has many friends that are members and his whole family came for church on Sunday for the baptism and stayed all three hours for the conformation. It was great! I think the whole family will be baptized but we will have to be very faithful with the Father. He is really stuck to his mothers religion, even though he dose not regularly attend and understands the authority issue. He is funny and really smart, good thing my companion is amazing and we will be able to teach him--I just know it.
Anyway, things are really good here, this week has been hard. I think I told you, we taught 27 lessons last week, this week we taught 31 and that was with a zone conference--that is a huge blessing! My companion said there were these Elders that taught 60 lessons in two days. I think that at that point, you are going for numbers--not for people. It seems a little over the top. But it is cool to teach that much!
Sorry I don't have much to write this week, my brain feels like mush. Anyway, have a great week and I will write a better email next week. I am praying for all of you and have a great week!

felizidade!!!!
This week has been great. We met all the requirements for a Missionary of Excellence!!! 27 lessons. I know we can do more but for now that is the best we have done. Today I got 12 cartas and 2 packages. It was wonderful!!!
I love you all so much and to any one that has written me in the last little bit, I love them! From Jon I received his letter from Feb. 5th. It is about a 20 day laps. Receiving letters will depend on when we have zone conference or when our leaders from our zone go to Salvador.
This time it was because of zone conference.
I love zone conference. We have sisters that get to come and sleep over at our house and stuff. It is very fun and I love, love, love the President’s wife, Sister Souza. She came to look at our house and then she let us call her friends. It was very fun. I talked to Susie from Morgan, Muito Engraçado!
Last week I had a great email all done and I went to send it and got kicked out of the system and my time was up. I was really mad. More mad than a missionary should be. It did make for a very funny journal entry which you can all read when I come home if you want.
Yesterday I ate a typical Bahian food called Acadaja. It was horrible and today all the elders were trying to tell me that it was great and that they barley go a day without one. I don’t think so! Last week I had fish... that was a very bad idea. I will only eat fish at the member’s house if the member is clean. Anyway, I think I will just stick to bonbons. Which by the name you know it is good. It means good goods and they are really good.
I went through my letters. Most of them talked about the death of the Prophet. It is funny to me that the only time I even sort of started to tear up from these letters was when Jon was writing to me about Gordon B. Hinckley and how he is the prophet of our generation. Basically, no one here has ever known another prophet. It was very toughing.
This week we taught a few people that just can not get out of the saved by grace mentality. I mean we have taught them about the resurrection and the spirit has been so strong. They say that they pray and that it is good. Then they are like, “we don’t need to go to church, the Lord will provide the way for us”. I am like wait just one second, were you here when we just said that the restored gospel is here. How on earth could you not feel the spirit. If you go to church you will feel it even more.
It is very hard to let these people go when they do not want to come because in Brazil, if they do not come to church we just move them to past investigators because they are not progressing and they are not showing desire. It is very hard but very good.
I think I am speaking better and better all the time.
Today the President told me that I can not speak English with my companhara but I think that it will be good. Honestly, I know that I can speak more than I do. Yesterday we had a lesson with this boy, his mother and a member family. The ward missionary and Sister Rezende said that it had to be good because if they trust us they will help us more. It was a great lesson and I did not ask my companion how to say anything.
Anyway, life is great ! I love you all !

"Mais brilhante do que o sol"
I'm downloading my pictures from the CTM this first week so I am typing this from my google account. I got permission from the AP--who by the way--is my friend from Vermont. I did not even know he was hear; my branch president from Vermont had emailed me and said that Kevin Berkholder was hear but I thought it had to be a different mission. When I was was coming out of the airport last week I saw Sister Soza and then Kevin,... and I was like aaaaaah!!! I think what I said was, "shut the front door!!!!!"
I am in a city called Camaçari, it is fun we live on the poor side of town but that means we get more baptisms because the people are humble.
I love the beans and rice, I hated them in the CTM and rarely ate them but here they are good. I knew Brazilians had to have better taste buds then the type of taste bud that liked the food in the CTM.
My comp. is great, she is from Santa Catherine--in the southern part of Brazil. She is wonderful; with her, I will be loved into Portuguese. The language is going better than expected and I know that it's because the Lord has blessed me a tone!
So I may, or may not have a small skin disease I like to call leprosy! But it is fine, I will just go find a river and wash seven times or something.
So it's really, really hot here and we are required to take a shower every morning and evening, I am not mad about this at all, and would not be too mad if we got to take one in the middle of the day too. I am the only American Sister right now but I am sure that we'll get one in the next few transfers or something.
Last week we got to see the WW leadership broadcast and it was way good, it was in Portuguese so I had a lot of time to think about the subject at hand since I understood... mais o menos. It was fine, it was about raising up a faithful generation. So, like the responsibility of continues conversation that Chrisy and I have: like how are we're going to raise children in this world. And how everything that I was raised with, I am also going to try to use with all of my investigators. Elder Holland calls investigators babes in the gospel and so we must raise them up like children.
Ok my time is up. I love you all a lot and I am going to sent some pictures if can figure out how to upload them on to pacaso with half of the instructions in Portuguese.. and well... it is sort of frustrating. I love you all more that all the world and if i did not send you an email back i am sorry i am working on am letter, I am sure.
Love you all have a wonderful day.

Last week of the MTC!
Whoot Whoot!!!
I have really loved the CTM but am ready to get out of hear! I know that I could spend more time hear learning portuguese but I think I will learn more not being in the CTM. It will be a process but I will not be mad about leaving in a week from today.
Last week has gone by really really fast. The highlight was that Elder Nelson came and I got to shake his hand... and so did everyone else but that's ok, I still feel good about myself. He was really great, he talked about three things. One, that we need to come back speaking three languages better: English, Portuguese, and I think the spirit, but he never got to the third one. The next thing that he did was tell us we are noble and great and the best thing that we will aspire to is the great calling of being parents. Because that is the most important and powerful calling that you could ever have. Lastly, he talked about 3 Nephi 11--baptism, doctrine and not having contention. We concluded that we need to baptize but only after we teach the doctrine.
The other thing that has been going on is that it has been really cold; today it has been really rainy (chover: to rain) I think. Well, we have had a lot of that. It's going to be fun when I am out in the real world and have to deal with that any time it rains--man, doesn't that sounds fun!!?!?
Um. well thanks to anyone that sent me a little email saying they were thinking about me; I might add, this thanks is not to anyone that is related to me!!!!! Do I have to sick Alma 60:6 on you all!?!?!?! Maybe the problem is that I have not extended a commitment to any one. Will you email me a small email next week?
Well, have a great week and I love you all a lot even if you forget that I am in Brazil doing the Lords work and that you will get extra blessings for emailing me and you get even more blessings for writing real letters.
Well love you ,
your Sister Kate Felt

Muitissemo
Hello Famila,
Life is way good; last week was fun and fast. We got new roommates I really loved our last ones but the new ones are better for us. I think because one of the Sisters--I am not even going to try to spell her name--talks to us and makes us talk to her in Portuguese, she is so funny. Last night she was lamenting that she was missionary because she saw the most beautul American missionary that day, she said that he looked like one of the back steet boys. She really craks me up.
There is another Sister that came that is not my roommate but she is a Brazilian coming to Salvador with me the same day that I am going. That was not all that unexpected, I knew if a Sister was going to come with me, she had to enter the MTC last week. Also, Chrisy there are some Sister's that are going to Cabo Verde, which is cool that they just come to the Brazilian CTM because they don't need to learn a language.
We got a new president of the CTM President Woodwar, he is really cool. It will be weird not having President Carden or Sister Cardon around anymore; they are amazing people. They left toddy.
The reality of me leaving the CTM hit me this week, so I am sort of freeking out about that. I get to be a real missionary now, I'm playing for keeps now and I want to keep them all :)
Last Friday proselytizing was amazing, we had a goal to bankrupt the teacher's supply of pass along cards and BOM's. We did it with an hour to spare so then we just started to get referrals.
We were going up to people, teaching them a little bit, and getting there address. That was way scary and amazing all at the same time. My amazement of the Brazilian people still continues to grow, they are all so loving and amazing. There were times when we would be teaching one person and another person would be walking past and stop and listen to us and take a card and just look so interested--it was unbelievable! Then there were other times that people would listen to our message and be like, I am Catholic, my whole family is Catholic, but thank you so much for your message. It is unbelievable, they are so just kind.
So last night my companion and I were minding our own business doing work for Missionary Directed Study Time (MDST) and a teacher came in and asked us to teach the first lesson to her class in Portuguese. She was like, "They have only been here a week and they are sort of nervous. You will do great--just show them that they can do it." and so I was like OK, they wont know when we mess up because they have only been here one week right?.... Well, we get to the room and it's a class of Brazilians, what the heck! But really, it was so good for me to do this, and they were wonderful to help me with the language.
My favorite Brazilian Sister left today she was a small little ball of joy. She has only been a member for one year and she is on a mission and she is going to be so, so, good. I just wanted to tell some one that story it's good huh? I should tell it at parties. -- brincadara (joking)
Um, I know there was something else that I was also going to write... oh well. I do want to tell you all that Gale and my friend Christie (I know that is not you spell her name) sent me a letter through "missionary ties" and I don't know how or what they did but it felt like it got here really fast, so that might be a good idea for getting things to me in a timely manner. Anyway I need to go, have a great week to all!
I love you all, muito, muito, muitissemo
I learned that slag this week does that work in Portugal portuguese?
Any, anyway love you tons,
Sister Kate Felt

brush your hair, brush your teeth, put on makeup
This week has really been so great, we are in the third trimester of the CTM, whomb!!!!
So, last Wednesday we went to the national police so that we could all be finger printed and get our visas extend so that I don't have to go home six months early. We had fun, it was fun to get the group of missionaries we came with back together again.
We got matching ties for our district and I thought it was cool, Sister Thompson and I just put ours in our hair to look like a head band. But one of the teachers got mad, well not mad, but we sort of got in trouble. Don't worry, they havn't told me to pack my bags just yet. The Elders have also started making-up, and doing stupid magic tricks; this is a sign that we've been in the CTM way too long.
Last week as a district, we decided to start praying for each other. We started praying that we would have an open atmosphere so we could talk about the things with which we are having problems. I am not going to lie, I think it's worked so well for us to do this because I feel like as a district, we are at the point where most districts are all getting sick of each other. It's been five weeks but instead of getting mad or frustrated with each other, I think we've grown in love for each other. It's amazing!
This Sunday we watched the Joseph Smith movie it was amazing. I love that! And I love JS and the amazing things he did for us with Heavenly Father. It was amazing!
Yesterday I got a letter from my mission president. This was epic for me. I have sort of been feeling bad that everyone had gotten a letter from there MP and I hadn't even heard from him. So when I got it I was way happy and so I opened it right away. And it's all in Portuguese!!! Gurrr, so I have to try really, really, hard to read it and even get some help. This is what is basicaly said:
Sister Felt,
We are so excited for you to come to our mission you will be coming on the 5 of Feb 2008. We will bring our camera to take pictures of you at the mission home. We will have a nice meal and dessert when you get here.
• brush your hair
• brush your teeth
• put on makeup
It's important to look nice.
Love, President and Sister Soza
OK, first I think it's funny because it's practically saying you are not going to get any good food hear so I'll feed you, your last good meal--ten to one says it's beans and rice. I will tell you once I have this meal. The other thing is that it was so short and they told me in bullet points to brush my teeth, and hair, and take care of myself. I don't know if you all think it's funny. but I think it's WAY funny!
Anyway this Friday we are proselytizing, so pray for me and my companheira.
Well have a great week, Thanks for your love,
I would love to hear from you all,
Love you,
Tchou!

Boa Tarde
Oí famíla,
This week has been really great for me, on tuesday we had a talk by President Cardin. It was on being a maissionary of mighty faith; it was really AMAZING. I think i am getting a better idea of what it is to be a good missionary. You all did not warn me that it's a very difrent way of thinking. When you are a missionary you never really do anything for yourself and that's when the faith comes in. Everyday you obay all the rules not because you want to all the time but because you have the faith to know that this is not your time. Sort of weird when you are getting use to it.
I was having a hard time this week, knowing that I'm not doing as well with my language as the others in my district, I don't know why this should be surprising knowing how my mind works. But I was talking to my companion and she was a great help telling me that we have been promised that we will speak Portuguese, which I know is true. Since then I have felt much better I know that the Lord is not going to tell me to do something and then let me fail when I am doing his work. That is another area where faith comes in.
Last friday I got to go proselytizing out in São Pãlo it was amazing, I loved it is was amazing how loving the people were and how open they were to listening to the message. I was almost sure the first person I talked to was planted by my teacher but no, I think that's just the way the Brazilians are. Sure, we had plenty of people that were not willing to listen but an amazing number really were. I think that's just the disposition of the people, that's what makes the field so white and ripe for harvest. President Hinckly told the Brazilians a year or two ago that the number of baptisms need to double in Brazil, which is amazing considering the numbers of people getting baptized. Every missionary has two rules 1. Never go to any church meeting with out an investigator and 2. never miss a meeting. I don't think that's possible everywhere but missionaries all over Brazil are doing it. It's amazing!
There was one girl that we were talking to and she was so happy to listen and looked so interested that I also added my testimony to my companion and gave her the BOM it was soo cool I felt really great. I can't wait until I get to discover all of the stories of these people when I get to meet them, and teach them, and understand them. It's really amazing.
Today we went to the temple in Campinas, it's so beautiful I loved it. It's so clean. I think everything inside the temple is designed to reflect light and so the whole thing is just glistening I love it. Well time is up.
One addition is that my roommates are so amazing, I love them and they really crack me up every night, I am greatful for them and I am really greatful for my companion.
Have a great day I would love to get letters, hint, hint or if you are family emails.
Love, Sister Kate Felt

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Feliz ano nova! ok i really have no clue how to spell that?
So today is p-day and as you know, that means that last Tuesday was also my p-day. But, not only did I not get to email, but also you thought I was going to be able to call. Humm, that apparently was not the case. But if you think about it, it will be cooler for me to call on Mothers Day because then i will know more Portuguese whereas right now I really don’t know anything, like I do, but at the same time, not really.
New years was crazy last night it was (A.) so hot that it took a good hour to fall asleep and (B.) the fireworks were so, and i really mean, SO loud that I thought maybe there was some sort of war going on. It was sort of cool.
This last week sister T and I got roommates, they are from Brazil. Where you ask? We don’t know, they talk really, really fast and I don’t think it helps that we are not completely up to par on the geography of Brazil. They are really cute though; I am going to try to send you pictures. There are sort of funny things that happen when you cannot understand one another.
The Elders in my district still crack me up, they just came into the tie shop that we are in. We are getting matching district ties that are orange and sister T and I are going to where them on our heads.
One of the Elders is so funny, he never really says anything and than come up with the most hilarious things to say. Like one day we were eating dinner and a kid came up and was being really funny and sort of a brat. When he was walking away the Elder that never says anything said, “What a miserable little man" this may not be funny to you, but it was really funny coming from him.
Anyway, got to run. Love you so much, the gospel is true and it’s great in Brazil, and really hot.
I think that baptizing in Brazil is so high because people need to cool off in the font. Haha ha, just kidding. Well, I do really love you.
Have a Great Day

My first p-day
It has sort of been a hard adjustment to life in the CTM. I am not sure how to put it into words but I think they are trying to cram my brain full of so many things that I am on overload all the time. But, I know that it’s all good and that it is going to all make sense someday. Like Pres. Carden said, he has seen thousands of missionaries come through and I will not be the first to not learn the language in the CTM, but I will learn the langue because all the other thousands have.
My companions name is Sister Thompson she is great and I love her. She is half black and so everyone thinks that she is Brazilian and that she can speak Portuguese, but she can’t, it puts her in funny situations all the time.
Today we went to the Campinas Temple it was beautiful!!! And I was grateful for the time to write some letters and to just sit and talk with my companion about anything but language stuff; she is really cool and very talented. The men that are in my district are great I am grateful for there fun loving attitude and the fun that we are able to have. Some times it can get sort of out of hand but it is no problem because during Mission Directed Study Time (aka MDST) SisT and I can go into a different room or go work on TALL (a language learning program).

I know that I am not so good with languages and that it is really just a blessing to get such smart and advanced people in my district, but it’s hard for me to see them to be doing so well and feel like I am behind. But it is good Tudo Bem !!!! I love it and know that I am doing what I am suppose to be doing.
I love you all way more that I could ever possibly tell you in just a letter or with words,
Love Kate Felt
p.s. best news ever !!!!! I don’t have to were nylons!!!!! Mutio Bem!

Mission Again
Ok so I know that this is like all that I post about but it is what I am faced with all the time so if you are sick of it just don’t read my blog I am ok with that.
I changed my background so that it is more mission appropriate.
I will try to post my letters to you all this way, so that you can just read the blog and know what is going on and if you want to comment that is fine I don’t really know what the rules are but I will try to keep you all informed of what is going on.
In a few hours I will be 9 days away from leaving on my mission, that is rock’en. I have been thronged with ever emotion that could possible be associated with this type of transition. Most of the time I find myself over come with joy, the time has finally come for me to go. Other time I find my self, terrified and dreading the task at hand.
Any way I just wanted to tell y’all that I love you and thank you for your love and support. I would like to thank all my friends that drove to Richfield to see me talk. And well for that mater my family but really they don’t really read this so I guess that someday I will just tell them if they are not getting a thank you note in the mail already. I am also extremely grateful to my brothers that were all there and their significant others and also the biggest thanks of all to my mom and dad.
My mom worked all week long, at great personal scarifies, to make the little shin dig/ Peay family Thanksgiving dinner possible. But her love does not stop in just her works but flows freely like always in her words. And my Dad is as always the most supportive man I know. He normally makes me figure things out on my own but he is always there to listen. I think that he just might be my number one fan. He came to hear me talk and was with the family for most of the day even though he was feeling extremely ill. And later than night he was able to give me so wonderful counsel. I love him, and I hope that someday I can find a man to be as good of a head of the household as my dad is.
Well it is late and I am done with the other stuff that I was doing so I think it is time for me to be going but I do want to say thanks to any one that read this, have a great day and smile.

Talk in Church before leaving on a Mission
I am pleased to invite you all to come see me speak in church before I leave on my mission.
Any of you that are a little behind on my life I am, I have been called to labor in the Brazil Salvador Mission. I will be leaving December 11, and going straight to the MTC in San Paulo, Brazil.
I will speak in Sacrament Meeting November 25th @ 9:30 AM, in the Richfield 3rd. Ward 985 S. 400 W.
If you Drive for any distance at all, or are one of my moocher friends from Richfield, than I expect you to come to the Youth Center (91 S. 200W.) after sacrament meeting to join my family for a Thanks Giving Feast.
P.S. if you are truly dying to see me speak and you can not make it to Richfield than I am also talking on November 18 @ 1:00 PM In the OUU 15th ward on the East end of the chapel on 46th street, next to the UV and Dee Events Center.
Thank you to all of you I don’t expect you to come but it is good to be informed.
Have a wonderful day and my you have Heavenly Fathers Blessing upon your head. Love you and Good Day, Katherine Felt

Hawaii
And the ship that is in the picture is I think the USS Missouri where the final treaty was signed ending the war between the US and Japan.
So this picture sort of show and the beginning and the end of Americas involvement in such a dark point in histor.
And then we watched the sunset
Look how cute my sister is and her husband
This trip was brought to me by my beautiful sister and her husband Will :)
I have a few more pictures but no more commentary just look which I bet most of you do anyway
Love ya all

Hawaii

On Friday I am going to Hawaii!!!!
The land of beautiful things.
As in I think that I will come back from Hawaii a more beautiful person than before.
Ok that might not be true, but you never know.
Well that is really all that I have to say, but I am so excited and I am at work and it is just one of those nights that really I don’t think that the girls even need a staff.
But I am not sad, I will just go read now.
Have a great day to all and I love you all and I will think of you in Hawaii. That is almost as good at getting a gift from me!!!!!!
